Latest Discoveries

Aussie Patches added these enchanting handmade soft Matryoshka (Russian Stacking doll) today, I couldn't resist and bought two, I've been waiting to acquire a piece of work by this talented artist and the wait was worth it. They are rather Kokeshi-esque in style too. I read somewhere that Matryoshka might have been influenced by wooden Kokeshi dolls. I really like the softness and textural aspects of Aussie Patches' versions. You can find her Etsy shop here, and her blog here (she writes about the creation of the dolls, very sweet stuff).

Alicia Rosam is the artist behind "Aussie Patches", you must check out the rest of this talented girl's work: www.alijart.com

Also today, I came across the work of Samuel Ribeyron, a French artist I found through El Petirrojo. I don't understand a single word on either site, but art is wonderful and multi-lingual like that. You can find Samuel Ribeyron's blog here and keep up with his activities. Very charming work!

"Sprigs"
I would love to see this one letterpressed. It was a completed sketch I finally vectorized. It's a new favorite.

Looking at vintage ornamental designs to create my own patterns. This one was inspired by Lewis F. Day who was experimenting with German Gothic tracery patterns.

Touching, literally.

Inner Landscape by Elsita, Cut Paper

Ok, so maybe I'm not literally touching this piece, but Elsita touched it to create it, and I can imagine running my fingers lightly over all the lovely textures. So it counts. :) A truly touching piece, read about it's story on Elsita's blog.
Thank you, Elsa, for sharing your creative heart.

Judge's Pick!!

I received an email this morning letting me know that I won the Judge's Pick in the Imprint Handbag Design Contest. Yea me! LOL. There were other winners of course, congratulations to everyone who participated!
Prizes for each winner will be:
- Grand Prize: Louis Vuitton LV Murakami Neverfull Handbag
- Judges’ pick: Louis Vuitton LV Murakami Neverfull Folio
- Honorable mention: $20 Starbucks giftcard

I totally did this for my fascination with Takashi Murakami's take over of the world at large and I'm quite honored, but, umm, what's a Louis Vuitton LV Folio? Crosby, maybe you can fill me in on this one. :)

Randomness

Polka dots birdie by rosie music, 2.5" x 3.5", Watercolor
Newly acquired art: Tiny drawing from rosie music on Etsy. Love her simple and sweet style.

Fly Fishin by Tim's Sally, 2.5" x 3.5" Acrylic on paper
Newly acquired art #2: Small painting from Tim's Sally Etsy shop. Funny character that reminds me of Joe Sorren's work... and I love fishing so I fell for this tiny treasure.

ADDED NOTE: HMMM, guess this piece is more Joe Sorren than I thought. For this post I went to his website to add his link and discovered the image below on the homepage which I have never seen before today. A little too similar if you ask me, I feel duped :( Sorry Joe, I guess I'll keep my "copy is the sincerest form of flattery" tiny painting until I buy one of your masterpieces... and then it's STRAIGHT OUT THE DOOR... I swear. The painting only cost me $5 so I won't complain too much. But I still feel lousy right now.

in the morning, in the tide (the annunciation) by Joe Sorren, 34"x 40" oil on panel
I have a penchant for original works and surround myself with inspiring images, if only I had a budget to match, so the tiny artist cards will have to suffice for now.

Nostalgia hits and I remember this sweet face of "My Friend Mandy". I remember in 3rd or 4th grade giving a "show and tell" presentation dressed in matching outfits that my grandma made for me and Mandy. I loved that jean overall skirt and long sleeved shirt with tiny yellow flowers. I've grown a year older since my last post so I guess it's stuff like that this that will keep me forever young ;)

Found this through MoCo Loco yesterday and thought it quite hilarious.
